OBS Best Settings for Beginners

These are the optimal OBS settings for most beginners. They balance quality with performance, so your stream looks good without killing your computer.

Output Settings

Go to Settings → Output. Set the output mode to "Advanced" for more control.

Streaming Tab

Video Settings

Go to Settings → Video:

Audio Settings

Go to Settings → Audio:

Advanced Settings

Go to Settings → Advanced. Most of these can stay default, but here are the important ones:

Quick Setup by Hardware

Low-End PC (Budget CPU, no dedicated GPU)

Mid-Range PC (Good CPU or NVIDIA GPU)

High-End PC (Powerful CPU and GPU)

Testing Your Settings

After changing settings:

  1. Click "Start Recording" (not streaming) to test
  2. Play a game or do what you normally stream
  3. Check your CPU/GPU usage in Task Manager
  4. Watch the recording to see if quality is good
  5. If your game is laggy, lower bitrate or resolution
  6. If quality is bad, increase bitrate (if your internet can handle it)

Common Issues and Fixes

Remember: Better settings don't always mean better streams. Stability and consistency matter more than perfect quality. Start with conservative settings and work your way up.
